A dander up Birnam Hill

The team at Click Book Stay are really focused on health and wellbeing, from cooking up yummy healthy food to activities such as rowing and running, diving and hill walking we love it all! Often the chat in the office will involve talk of PB’s and races. We know our guests enjoy this too and we want to be able to share our knowledge in order for our guests to get the BEST experiences possible during their holidays!

Today Mac and I embarked up a lovely, short but steep walk near Dunkeld and Birnam aptly called Birnam Hill.  We accessed the small car park from the main arterial route North – the A9. Located just before the turn to Birnam (if heading North), it has a handy info board with routes detailed on it.

Albeit misty the whole way up, this did not deter us and we marched on. Limited views all round but still stunning nonetheless, I’m biased and think Scotland is magical no matter what the weather is.

Following the well trodden paths upwards with beautiful landscapes all around passing various walkers (some had traveled all the way from Edinburgh just to walk up Birnam Hill!!), we came across Stair Bridge. Once upon a time a grand structure it now stands ruined but still magnificent. The path through this leads to a viewpoint which Mac and I didnt visit today as we were determined to reach the top in a good time (to be revisited on a clear day).
After a steep climb we reached the top which on a clear day would surely be breathtaking.

After a quick decent down and back to the car it was definitely time to head back to Dunkeld for a trip to the Great British Bake Off star – Flora Sheddon’s Aran Bakery

All in all a fab walk which is dog friendly (with care as wildlife all around and some steep drops) – Mac’s verdict is 10/10 as is mine. We completed it in roughly 1.5 hours but it depends entirely on your own pace. I use the Walk Highlands website frequently to plan my walks as their information and reviews are usually helpful and accurate, have a look and see if there is anything that you feel like having a bash at.
