There is more to this town than a quick stop at the services! Kinross has a wee hubbub of cafes, restaurants and niche shops as well as some fantastic outdoor activities and we even have a holiday rental property there too!
Loch Leven Heritage trail.
This circular trail is approximately 21km around Scotland’s largest lowland freshwater loch and is suitable for walkers and cyclists as well as wheelchair users and motorised scooters. The trail also skims round the RSPB Vane Farm nature reserve and…you could stop off at Loch Leven’s Larder en-route for a nice coffee or tea and cake!
Scottish Gliding Centre
If you are looking for something a little different, why not try an ‘Air Experience’, ‘Mini Courses’ or ‘Learn to Glide’ package at the Scottish Gliding Centre in Scotlandwell (just a short drive from Kinross). You could be sightseeing from above and enjoying the peace and quiet at the same time, and on a clear day, you should be able to see some of the glorious Scottish countryside, taking in the Ochil Hills, Loch Leven and maybe even see as far as the Grampians! These gliding experiences often take place during the summer months (typically from April to end of August). For other times outwith or for further information, contact the Scottish Gliding Centre.
Loch Leven Castle
If you are after a bit of history, take a visit to Loch Leven Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was once a guest then imprisoned here by her host turned jailer in the mid 1500s. You can only reach the castle by boat as it is situated on an island in the loch. There are still sailings across to the castle until 31st October (where you can purchase a ticket on arrival). Thereafter it is closed until 1st April where it will re-open for the season.
Knockhill Racing Circuit
Once a farm and disused railway track in the 1970s, local sheep farmer Tom Kinnaird felt that it was time for a change….and started on the building of Knockhill Racing Circuit which has brought some well known international faces to The British Superbike championship in the 2000s such as Yukio Kagayama and Jonathan Rea. Located approximately 12 miles by car from Kinross, you can experience driving a racing car, book a family/friends karting day or have a go at driving a Ferrari or Aston Martin! For further information, please see the Knockhill Racing Circuit website.
