Mara Cottage is a quaint traditional fishing cottage which has been lovingly upgraded to fit in with the modern world, although this has been done carefully not to lose its original character and historic charm. Located on the North Coast 500, the cottage is the perfect resting stop for tired travelers to recoup. There are some great walks and lovely beaches a short wander away. Mara Cottage is a welcoming, charming property in a location which offers the best of both worlds - relaxation and chill-out time with a selection of books and games or a base to explore the northern highlands. There is an enclosed garden to both the front and back of Mara Cottage which is suitable for children. 

Prepare hearty meals in the well-equipped kitchen which is sleek, fresh and inviting with a contemporary design which flows elegantly into the open dining space and leads into a private garden - perfect for al fresco dining outside in fair weather. The snug living room has a wood burning stove and home entertainment system, perfect for those days when the cold stops you from venturing outside. The light and bright bedrooms offer plenty of storage, for unpacking to feel truly at home, and fantastic views over the ocean. The all-sharing family bathroom comes equipped with power shower, great for washing the sand from your feet after a trip to the beach!

Nestled in the small fishing village of Hilton of Cadboll, Mara cottage offers a charming retreat within a stunning coastal landscape. The village is one of three shoreline villages which include Balintore and Shandwick, these being collectively known as the Seaboard villages. The Cottage is situated on the eastern shore of the legendary Moray Firth, enjoying one of the most temperate climates in Scotland. The surrounding area encompasses beautiful coastal walks plus interesting geological features such as the ancient raised beach which can be accessed at the end of the village. The Moray Coast also offers a variety of Pictish stones situated in both Hilton of Cadboll and Shandwick bay. In the nearby village of Portmahomack, there is an award-winning Pictish Visitor Centre where you can find out more about this subject. If beaches are your thing then Shandwick offers an award willing Blue Flag beach, perfect for a family picnics or just relaxing in the sun.

The historic burghs of Tain and Dornoch, which are both featured on the rapidly popular North Coast 500 route, are within easy reach of Mara Cottage. Both are charming and offer a variety of historic sights which are well worth a visit. The Highland Capital of Inverness is a thirty-minute car journey or alternatively catch the train from Fearn Station which is 10 minutes from Mara Cottage.

Booking Terms 25% deposit is required to secure the dates with the balance due 8 weeks prior to arrival. Where a booking is made within 8 weeks of arrival then full payment will be required at the time of booking. We accept most forms of payment including bank transfer; all major credit cards and UK issued debit cards. Rental is inclusive of linen and towels, as well as utilities (gas and electricity) unless otherwise stated on the individual property adverts. Fair usage policy applies. All breakages are chargeable. Click Book Stay have the right to charge a fully refundable security deposit.

Cancellation Policy - Once a booking deposit has been paid and the booking confirmed in writing, the Tenant is liable for the whole amount of the rent for the period booked.  Any cancellations must be made in writing and acknowledged by us. 

In the event of a cancellation, the following charges will apply:

  • If notice of cancellation is given more than 8 weeks before your arrival date, 25% of the total tariff is non-refundable
  • If notice of cancellation is given with less than 8 weeks of your arrival date, the full amount is payable.

 Holiday / Cancellation Insurance. Once booked, the Tenant is liable for the complete Property rental costs. As such, it is strongly recommended that the Tenant take out suitable holiday / cancellation insurance to cover costs incurred by unexpected holiday cancellation.  Booking Protect, which is a cancellation policy, is offered as an option at the time of booking via the TS Holiday Lets website.  Booking Protect is an independent company and not in any way related to TS Holiday Lets.
