This self-contained apartment for 4 people ( King Size and two Single Sofabeds suitable for children ) is situated on the first floor of an iconic listed building in the heart of the lovely Georgian village of Dunkeld. The village sits on the banks of the River Tay, just over the water from its sister community of Birnam. The area is in the heart of Perthshire Big Tree Country, with a range of fantastic ways to enjoy the outdoors, whether you're strolling along the banks of the river to Dunkeld's partially ruined cathedral or riding the gnarly downhill mountain bike trails in the hills around the village.

Dunkeld and Birnam offer a fantastic shopping experience with a great selection of small boutique shops, arts & crafts galleries, gifts shops, and speciality food & drink purveyors. Alongside this are well-stocked local food stores, a great butcher, great bakers, and beautiful home and interior stores. You can even buy a pair of hand-crafted skis.....

Located above the award-winning Scottish Deli, with its daytime delicatessen and well-known evening tapas restaurant, staying at the well-equipped Townhouse Apartment gives guests the opportunity to cater for themselves or take advantage of the wealth of local foodie venues and pubs nearby. If you’d prefer to arrange your meals in advance the Scottish Deli is happy to provide continental breakfast and packed lunches and to put together a delicious welcome hamper of goodies.

The Townhouse Apartment occupies a first-floor corner location overlooking the crossroads in the middle of Dunkeld's Atholl Street. Built in 1809 by the Duke of Atholl as accommodation for the manager of the grocery shop below, the property retains many original historic features, including sash windows and wooden shutters in the main room.

Dunkeld & Birnam is the perfect location for a break in this beautiful part of the world with plenty to keep everyone happy including:
  • Bike hire
  • Climbing
  • Walking
  • Adventure tourism such as canyoning, paddle boarding and rafting
  • Wildlife – with bird and red squirrel watching at the Loch of the Lowes and beaver safaris on the River Tay.
Culture is covered too and we’re looking forward to the reopening of Birnam Arts which hosts art exhibitions, Beatrix Potter displays, screenings from the local film club and when permitted again, theatre shows, comedy gigs and a range of music concerts
Traditional music fans can enjoy music nights in the area’s pubs.

Finally you can't miss the brightly coloured 'little houses' of Dunkeld which were built in the early 1700s. Restored to provide homes for local people, they are now in the care of the National Trust For Scotland (NTS).

The owners of The Townhouse Apartment have taken great care to create a cosy home from home and offer the opportunity to experience staying at the heart of this vibrant community.

Fixtures and fittings have been chosen with care, with upcycling of furniture where possible, and the result is a stylish and comfortable apartment with everything needed for a relaxing and well-deserved break.

Dunkeld & Birnam is easily accessible by bus and train, including the Caledonian Sleeper, coach, and car.

We had a great stay at the Townhouse Apartment!

Jane was a fantastic host and the apartment was equipped with everything we could need during our stay.

We loved the decor and history of the place ( & particularly liked the excellent shower and comfortable bed ).

A great location to explore the area - Our favourites:
  • Climbing Schiehallion (just 40 mins away)
  • Watching the Ospreys at Loch of Lowes
  • Exploring the Hermitage - Particularly the view from the Pinecone Point
  • Excellent Tapas at the Scottish Deli
  • Drinks with a River view at the Taybank
Thanks for a great stay! We would love to come again : )
