The village of Birnam is regularly associated with the neighbouring town of Dunkeld, however, the two are not one of the same. Birnam is a small town in Highland Perthshire which is just a short walk from its neighbour. A world of its own, the buildings in the village have a strikingly victorian feel the to them, with many remaining from the 1800's.

Couthie Cottage is in the heart of the village and has been beautifully renovated whilst still retaining the original charm of the farm cottage, utilising the natural wood beams throughout the property. Externally, there is a colonial style courtyard which adds to the historic feel of the property. The property itself is perfect for a family getaway, featuring a cosy living room that is ideal for relaxing after a day exploring the local area. The lounge provides a variety of entertainment for family time in the evening, and a contemporary kitchen provides all you need to whip up a hearty meal for the whole clan. Natural wood features throughout this cottage to give a true country finish in its design which you will welcome after spending a day in the great outdoors.

A selection of reviews from our guests:

"I'm delighted to report that Couthie Cottage was clean, welcoming and well-appointed. We would certainly recommend it and would be very happy to come back."

"We had a very pleasant stay at Couthie Cottage. The place was very clean when we arrived and everything worked as it should."

"Great place, spacious and warm feeling. Nicely tucked away in its own courtyard."

“Fabulous wee family cottage and superbly well equipped”

Couthie Cottage is located in the village of Birnam, just a short walk across the River Tay from the ancient cathedral town of Dunkeld. Birnam & Dunkeld are considered Scotland's most preserved historic towns both playing a hugely important part in Scotland's long and turbulent history. A long-standing tradition sees Birnam hosting the Annual Highland Games Birnam and Dunkeld which boast an array of sports; whether it's canoeing & whitewater rafting down the Tay or visiting the Murthly & Strathbraan Estates for something a little more traditional, such as trout & salmon fishing or shooting. The estates also have beautifully kept gardens and have excellent leisure amenities for those that are a little less adrenaline fuelled.

Perthshire is famous for its huge woodland areas, which are perfectly suited to cyclists and walkers alike and are said to have inspired Beatrix Potter to create the character of Peter Rabbit on one of her many rambles. Birnam Arts Centre has created their own Beatrix Potter Garden to inspire a further generation in this picturesque setting. Those looking for another perfect photo opportunity, however, should head to The Hermitage, which contains Ossian's Hall of Mirrors and overlooks the magnificent Black Linn Falls.

Parking: Through the archway, there is space for one car out in front of the cottage in the courtyard, near the steps.

"Highly recommended!"

The house is very cozy and clean and there's enough space for a family of four. The neighbourhood is really quiet. Dunkeld with its restaurants and shops is just an easy 10 minute walk away. Loved the bookshop around the corner with good coffee and great cakes.

"Ideally located"

Ideally located place to explore Birnam and Dunkeld. Great walks from the property.
