Quirky Kilts

Ask people what they think of when they picture Scotland, and we bet someone will say kilts! The traditional Highland dress is known globally and is one of the reasons people are drawn to the country – just remember don’t ask someone what’s underneath!

Scotland’s national dress is a knee-length non-bifurcated skirt with pleats at the back made of woollen cloth in a tartan pattern. The kilt is normally dressed with a shirt, sporran, high woollen socks, and in some cases headwear and a sgian-dubh – a knife that sits in the high woollen socks. However, we’ve some really quirky kilted things and we just had to share them with you!

Kilted Yoga

Kilted yoga has taken the world by storm and went viral back in 2017. The movement speaks to how the outdoors can do so much more for your mind, body and soul than simply doing yoga, and any fan of Scotland will know there’s plenty of outdoors there to replenish all those things! Founder Finlay Wilson combined his love for both Scotland and Yoga and created an amazing movement enjoyed by many globally. You can now even get books and calendars about the wellbeing campaign!

Kilted shortbread

If you’re staying with us in the Highlands or Moray be sure to head to Asher’s Bakery where you can find some tasty kilted shortbread! If you can’t make your way there, then why not try making some yourself! Check out this BBC Good Food page for a quick, simple recipe.

Kilted fudge

There may not be a physical kilt on this fudge but it’s certainly worth a visit. This fudge producer is based in Aviemore and if you’re staying with us in the area, we would highly recommend treating yourself to some! Kilted Fudge is a family-run business and some of their flavours are typically Scottish!

Kilted dog jackets

It may be a bit much to take home a whole suited and booted traditional kilt outfit for yourself when you visit Scotland, but you can get the dog dressed up in some finery if you wish! If you’re visiting one of our pet-friendly properties in Scotland, the pup will fit right in with this attire! Check out some, here.

Kilted coaches

Want to keep fit on your trip but be fully immersed in Scotland? Well, the Kilted Coaches are just the thing you need! Based in Perthshire in the Highlands, the two fitness coaches aim to bring health and happiness to their customers through being unapologetically themselves, and that involves wearing the kilts!

Kilted chef

Now you’ve got the yoga, fitness, dog and sweet treats sorted out, you will want to hear about the Kilted Chef! You can visit the MasterChef, Craig Wilson, at his restaurant, Eat on the Green or there are options to arrange private catering, why not book this for your self-catering for a treat one night?
