Working from home? You need a workcation!
Date Published: 20 Oct 2020
Our lifestyle and how we work has recently had a shift and one massive part of this is there are now many of us working from home.
If you’ve been working from home a lot recently, you can understand it can be quite hard going, especially if you find it harder to finish up for the day because you get more peace at home and there’s no traffic to get through, or you don’t really take a lunch break because all the food you need is in the kitchen and you can nip there easily from your desk. However, you need to take time away and enjoy your free time so you can be in the best possible mindset for when you are working. A lot of time in the same spot and the reluctance to take off abroad in the current climate isn’t giving you much of a change of scene or a chance to refresh, which can really make being at home all day very tedious.
So let us introduce to you the workcation, it’s basically like working from home but in a new, inspiring location where you can refresh in the evenings and weekends. Straight away you may think you would rather just take your actual annual leave days and be off work completely but hear us out – especially if you don’t get that many chances to take days off from work. You deserve a change of scenery and a workcation can give you just that, you can work through the day and then enjoy where you are in the evenings and weekends, also, if you had it to spare, you could take the odd day or afternoon off too giving yourself a longer weekend to enjoy where you’re at.
The wonderful thing about this is all you need is the usual equipment required from working from home, which you have anyway, and a reliable wifi connection. Of course you may need to speak with your work to sort out the logistics but there are a massive amount of benefits to this for both you and your workplace. For starters your productivity will most likely increase as you’ll want to prove that you are utilising the best of your working time and it was a good idea to go away to work, and you’ll be so much more refreshed by making an effort to enjoy yourself out of working hours. If you are self employed or work on a flexible basis, this is especially viable for you as you can take longer lunches to break up the day or start early to finish earlier and make the most of the afternoons and evenings.
You may find that this is quite an unusual thing to do and think that your workplace may find it as an unusual request, but if you are open about needing to clear your head and wanting to take time away, but that you also want to continue working to help the business get through a busy period then really, it’s a great idea!
